Programming a 2006 Ford Focus key fob

I've lost my key fob and purchased a new one. I get a chime after turning the key 5 times in the car instead of the car locks cycling at 8 times and the fob won't program. the key is also a replacement key. Any correlation? What is the problem?

Go under My Key (your Owner's Manual - somewhere around Page 58) - then check your MENU see if there's an Administration Key - that key - with this in its presence, needs to be used together during the programming sequence - then BOTH the Administration Key and this new key should be recognized, and you can put away the Administration key - only remember to pop the battery out of it and store it elsewhere.
