Focus tdci mk2 2006

I have a 2006 focus tdci 1.8. Just lately a warning light comes on a few miles into the journey. It's on the tachometer.a circular symbol with an exclamation mark. The car appears to drive normally but stutters slightly at a steady speed. Any help would be appreciated.
